I’ve had an incredible two years at BC, and despite working fully remote, I feel a strong sense of camaraderie with my colleagues. The team collaboration is fantastic, everyone is always willing to lend a hand when needed. The work-life balance is excellent, and I enjoy the occasional work trips to ESRIN for project meetings and workshops.

My work on the DeepESDL project has been particularly rewarding. DeepESDL provides a powerful data science environment for the Earth Science community, and now, being part of the next phase—integrating DeepESDL with EarthCODE to make science workflows fully reproducible is an exciting opportunity.

I still remember with a smile how I first made contact with Brockmann Consult in 2005. I was a PhD student in astrophysics, looking for opportunities outside of academia. They needed support in coding a scientist’s algorithm, which was well-documented but poorly prototyped. I provided that support, and after defending my thesis, I moved to Brockmann Consult permanently. I have often wondered how unlikely this opportunity was and how happy it made me.

For me it’s really important to work in the context of something I consider meaningful and important.  And when I tell other people about the company I work for, they ALWAYS say “wow, that sounds interesting!” That makes me very proud, even though I “only” work in administration.

I always describe the company as a “family”, where employer and employees care for each other. Working for Brockmann Consult, I feel supported, respected and appreciated for what I add to the team, while I have opportunities to learn new skills, improve my practice and grow professionally, and both these aspects are equally important to me.

A totally beautiful working environment, consisting of employees from many nations, which despite all the differences, or perhaps even because of the diversity (just as siblings are all different), feels like a wonderful family. Friends and acquaintances are often surprised that I have been working for the same company for so many years.

If that’s not proof that working here never gets boring, what more could be!

All very nice people (no exceptions!), great variety of origin/education, international flair. Team spirit, ‘flat hierarchy’. Projects all have their specific properties (e.g. bigger, smaller,…) and nice moments. But none of them was ‘bad’, most work was fun in any of them. One of the highlights of the past years was the move to Hamburg Bergedorf…

When asked about my experience working at BC, I find it easy to answer. I am happy with my job. My colleagues have been incredibly welcoming, creating an environment where I feel comfortable and valued. The work itself challenges me in the best way, allowing me to learn and grow, even in the short time I’ve been here.

When I finished studies in 1998, I was looking for a job that combines research and application, but I did not expect to really find it. But I did! With my start in Brockmann Consult in 2000 I felt so lucky that I found exactly what I was looking for and never regretted joining the Brockmann Family. We were 6 people at that time, and I had the privilege to see it growing, developing, changing, moving, but never forget its values and relationships.
