RE: MERIS Ocean Color L2 Reprojection
toggle
I am interested in reprojecting MERIS L2 satellite imagery from NASA’s Ocean Color site. I have downloaded and installed BEAM, and am trying to use VISAT version 4.9 to reproject MERIS (L2) imagery (WGS 1984) and save the file as a geotiff. However, when I click the “reprojection” tool – I get the error message “Product (then my file location/file name [L2_FRS]) is not a valid source”.

Could someone please indicate how I can reproject these files?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you kindly for your time,

Hi Samantha,

is your product geo-referenced? If not, it can of course not be re-projected. If it carries geo-information, though, it seems BEAM is unable to decode it. In that case I would ask you to make that product available to us.

Thanks and best regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas and Samantha,

When I try to open a MERIS product downloaded from Ocean Color in the reprojection tool of Beam, I get the same error as Samantha. Also, when I try to import the image as an Ocean Color product, an error message appears which states that the selected product cannot be decoded. I think this is the same error message that would come up in older versions of Beam before Ocean Color products were supported. I know for Ocean Color SeaWiFS files, it helps to add the .hdf extension to the file before trying to import them as Ocean Color products. I tried this for Ocean Color MERIS products but it did not solve the problem. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you for your help!

Dear Erika,

are you using the latest BEAM 4.9.0.1? I remember there was a fix regarding MERIS FRS a while ago. Also BEAM 4.10 is quite stable now so that you could consider giving the latest development snapshot a try.

Best regards
