RE: MERIS-AATSR synergy toolbox
MERIS-AATSR synergy toolbox
5/20/11 3:59 PM
Hi,
I am having two different problems using the MERIS-AATSR synergy toolbox:

1.There seems to be a problem with the first step of the algorithm (MERIS-AATSR collocation), when I use it with BEAM 4.8: A collocation product is created, but the area it covers does not match with the common area of the initial level 1b MERIS and AATSR products. According to the user manual (the installation procedure is very straightforward), the software was developed in the frame of BEAM 4.7. Could this difference in versions be causing the problem?

2.I tried to install the toolbox in another computer, using BEAM version 4.7. The toolbox now does not appear in the "Tools" menu of VISAT. In the Module Manager, the toolbox appears to be "Installed, (effective on restart)", but nothing changes when I restart the computer. I also checked the system info, in case there was a problem there (paths etc.), but everything seems correct.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Best Regards,
Nikos

Hello Nikos,

first of all I apologize that you had to wait for such a long time for an answer. Thinks have been very busy the last weeks.

1) Yes, you are right. This is very likely a bug. I've attached an image which shows the resulting product (red). I agree this is not what one would expect. I've contacted the developers of the synergy toolbox regarding this problem.

2) The Synergy Toolbox modules are not compatible with BEAM 4.9. We will release updated modules once we fixed the problem in 1).

Thanks for your patience.

best wishes
Marco

Hello Marco,
thank you for the information, and don't worry about the delay, I also was very busy with other things the last weeks.
I would appreciate if you could inform me when you have any news from the developers of the toolbox.
Best Regards,
Nikos

Hi Nikos,

we received an updated algorithm. I hope we can release an update this month.
I will give you an notification when it is released.

Hello Marco,

thank you and the developers of the toolbox very much, the problem with the collocation product has now been solved. Nevertheless, there appears to exist a similar problem with the third step of the algorithm (aerosol retrieval). Although the cloud screening process (second step) seems to work properly, the final aerosol product covers only a very small fraction of the collocated area. I've attached an image where the area 2 is a subset of the collocated region where the aerosol retrieval algorithm was supposed to run, and area 1 is the final product. The same pattern was repeated in every test I run.

Thanks again!
Nikos

Hello Nikos,

I've contacted the synergy developers again.
I'll inform you if I hear some news from them.

P.S. I have exchanged your image by a downscaled version. It better fits on the page.

best wishes
