HI,

I am keen to use the GlobToolbox capabilities for handling time series of MERIS GeoTIFF vegetation maps.

Can I format these times series so that I can open and manipulate them with the GlobToolbox?

If so, how?

All the best

Hi Tom,

As you probably have noticed they can not be used directly, because there is no time information in a GeoTiff file.
What you can do is to convert the GeoTiff files into BEAM-DIMAP format.
Afterwards you have to edit the .dim-file and add the time information.
At the beginning of the file you have to add the tags PRODUCT_SCENE_RASTER_START_TIME and PRODUCT_SCENE_RASTER_STOP_TIME into the Production tag.
Example:
1<Production>
2   ...
3   <PRODUCT_SCENE_RASTER_START_TIME>11-JUL-2008 08:56:44.000000</PRODUCT_SCENE_RASTER_START_TIME>
4   <PRODUCT_SCENE_RASTER_STOP_TIME>11-JUL-2008 08:56:44.000000</PRODUCT_SCENE_RASTER_STOP_TIME>
5</Production>

We plan to add the functionality, to edit the time information, to VISAT/GlobToolbox.
But for time being you have to edit the files manually.

best wishes

Thanks Marco,

I followed your instructions, created a short (11 day) time series and loaded it into BEAM 4.8.1 as a time series. The Time Series player seemed to work OK but every time I try to use the Time Series Graph it says 'no data to display' and the time axis has no values. I tried using the pin placing tool first but that made no difference.

Have I followed the wrong procedure? I am very interested in the graph function, especially the ability to export CSV files.

In case it is an issue with my test Time Series I have attached a WinZip archive.

Hi Thomas,

using version 2.0 of the GlobToolbox, the graph does not work if the images do not inhibit a valid mask -- such as the images your time series uses. However, that issue is fixed for version 2.1. Since version 2.1 of the GlobToolbox depends on the current developer version of BEAM, you would need both software packages.

There are two options I can offer you: First, you can wait until we release the new version of BEAM and the GlobToolbox. Second, I can upload the current versions of BEAM and the GlobToolbox on our FTP-server (or some different one, if that would suit you better).

With best wishes,
Thomas

Thanks Thomas,

I was carrying out an investigation and my use of the toolbox is not urgent so I am happy to wait for the new BEAM release with version 2.1 of the GlobToolbox.

Can you provide an estimate of when the next BEAM r4elease will be?

All the best
