1D coordinate variables not recognized
toggle
Hi,

I attached a very basic netCDF-CF file which I thought would work without problems in BEAM, but apparently it doesn't recognize the 1D latitude/longitude variables. Is that really a limitation of BEAM or is that a bug?

Cheers
Maik

Hi Maik,

BEAM cannot interpret the geo-information of the file you attached because the lat/lon variables are not one-dimensional, but two-dimensional, as ncdump tells me:

 1[...]
 2        double lat(time, lats) ;
 3                lat:actual_range = 61.3611111111111, 47.9166666666667 ;
 4                lat:units = "degrees_north" ;
 5                lat:valid_min = -90. ;
 6                lat:valid_max = 90. ;
 7                lat:standard_name = "latitude" ;
 8                lat:axis = "Y" ;
 9                lat:long_name = "Latitude" ;
10                lat:comment = "Geodetic latitude" ;
11        double lon(time, lons) ;
12                lon:actual_range = -111.714209544122, -91.9434817382032 ;
13                lon:units = "degrees_east" ;
14                lon:valid_min = -180. ;
15                lon:valid_max = 180. ;
16                lon:standard_name = "longitude" ;
17                lon:axis = "X" ;
18                lon:long_name = "Longitude" ;
19                lon:comment = "Geodetic longitude" ;
20[...]

I have attached the relevant snippet of a sample CDL of a file that BEAM can read including geo-information.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Cheers,
Thomas

Ok, I removed the time dimension and now it works. Thanks!
