After completion of Workpackage 1 in Quarter 1/2015 the project has commenced its activities with workpackage 2 “Implementation and Validation”. The work has focus on compilation of the “Database for Task 2” which will subsequently be used to text the algorithms. First, the team agreed in a teleconf on the configuration of the radiative transfer model runs (atmosphere and ocean). The Hyrolight (water, HZG) and SMART-G (atmosphere, HYGEOS) were configured accordingly and the computations were started. First datasets are already completed during this reporting period and the computations will be continued during the next quarter. PML has started to deliver in-situ data to the database, and after the team agreed on the test sites BC has started to collect MERIS and AATSR data over these sites. After the initial launch of Sentinel 2 and because this project will study the applicability of the algorithms to Sentinel 2, good (cloudfree) scenes over these test sites will also be collected. BC has tested the access to the science Hub and configured its automated downloading procedures. A report on this was given by K. Stelzer at the Sentinel 2 Expert Session in ESRIN, 29.-30.09.2015.

Thanks to an initiative of the SEOM POCO project the preparation of a common ocean colour user workshop in 2016 has been started. A first organisation teleconf has been held in August where the overall objectives and outline of the workshop has been discussed. The workshop will be help in the timeframe September – November 2016, presumably in ESRIN, and the teams are expecting ~ 120 participants.
