Brockmann Consult GmbH is an innovative company internationally operating in the domain of environmental informatics and geo-information services. We currently engage 22 highly skilled individuals comprising nature scientists, computer scientists and engineers. We are currently expanding the activities of our Geo-Information Services Department and look for an enthusiastic geoscientist or physicist:

Remote Sensing Scientist (w/m)

The working field will be remote sensing of water bodies including method development and optimization, image processing and data analysis. The work will be performed in the framework of the EU FP7 R&D projects Freshmon and Aquamar. The vacancy is open from now on. The contract will be for 3 years with the intention to turn it into a permanent position.

The position requires a very good understanding in ocean colour remote sensing as well as physics and mathematics. Good skills in scientific programming as well as working with computers are expected, as well as good knowledge of the English language (written and oral).

PhD Position for a Remote Sensing Scientist (w/m)

The working field will be the assimilation of remote sensing data and ecosystem models. The work will be performed in the framework of the EU FP7 R&D projects Cobios.

The position requires a very good understanding in remote sensing as well as physics and mathematics. Experience in eco-system modeling and scientific programming would be beneficial. Good skills in working with computers are expected, as well as good knowledge of the English language (written and oral).

Network Engineer/Administrator (w/m)

The operational area will be the deployment, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of computer hardware and software that comprises Brockmann Consult's computer network. Brockmann Consult is involved in the operational processing and distribution of space born Earth Observation data. These tasks require a very efficient, reliable and robust infrastructure.

The candidate's main responsibility will be to ensure that the network is up and running, including all internal processes and our internal and external services. This also includes control of our hardware and software inventory as well as its procurement, installation and update. She/he will also be heavily involved in the designing and drafting of new network topologies whenever required.

We expect that the applicant be very well used to Unix shell programming. Good knowledge of other scripting languages, in particular Python, is very welcome. Due to the nature of our company's main business, environmental informatics and geo-information services, we also appreciate a basic interest in natural science and image processing.

While our servers all run on Linux operating systems, our workstations run mainly Windows XP, Vista, 7 and Mac OS X. The software services to be maintained include Apache web servers and Tomcat application servers. Furthermore we run Liferay portal servers, Confluence Wikis, JIRA issue trackers and a TeamCity build server.
